Shah Abdul Latif Poetry


Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai was born in 1689 in the village of Hala Haveli, located in present-day Pakistan's Sindh province. He was a member of the Samma tribe, which was known for its spiritual traditions. From a young age, Latif showed an interest in poetry and spirituality, and he began composing poetry at an early age. He was also deeply influenced by the Sufi teachings of his time, and his poetry reflects this spiritual influence.


Shah Abdul Latif traveled widely throughout Sindh and the surrounding regions, spreading his message of love and devotion. He is said to have met many Sufi saints and scholars during his travels, and his poetry reflects the wisdom he gained from these encounters. He died in 1752.


His poetry "Shah Jo Risalo" is considered a masterpiece of Sindhi literature and is widely read and studied in Pakistan. It contains several stories, poems, and hymns, which reflect his deep understanding of human nature and the spiritual path.


Shah Latif's poetry is considered to be a major influence on Sindhi culture and literature, and his work is still widely celebrated in Pakistan today. His Urs (death anniversary) is celebrated every year in Bhit Shah, Sindh with great reverence and devotion, where his shrine is located.
